AJAC Award Winner

The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) announced today that four Mazda Vehicles have been awarded three Car of the Year Awards.

The winners are:

2018 MAZDA3 Best Small Car in Canada for 2018
2018 MAZDA3 Sport Best Small Car in Canada for 2018
2018 CX-5 Best Small Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2018
2018 CX-9 Best Large Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2018

AJAC is an association of automotive journalists, writers and photographers who test-drive and report on new vehicles in Canada. They are dedicated to providing consumers with sound, objective, comparative data to help inform buying decisions.

The AJAC awards are Canada’s prestigious automotive awards.

The 2018 editions of the MAZDA3, MAZDA3 Sport, CX-5 and CX-9 all come with cutting-edge technology, like G-Vectoring Control, which won the 2017 AJAC award for Best New Innovation Technology and i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology.

Plus 2018 models have made great strides making every drive a great drive. Reducing Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) for a smoother ride, fine tuning our groundbreaking SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY for even better responsiveness and handling, enhancing interior features and evolving our stunning KODO design aesthetics all work together to create vehicles that are a joy to drive.

We are so proud to receive these honours. Three awards across four nameplates recognize the consistent quality across the Mazda lineup. The awards are a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship that go into every vehicle we make.

At the heart of every idea, concept and realization of a Mazda vehicle is a passion for driving – for that connected-to-the-road feeling that creates anticipation for the road ahead while keeping drivers fully engaged both tactically and emotionally.

Recognition of our passion and craftsmanship is also a recognition of our belief that Driving Matters.

Thank you AJAC!

2014 Mazda3 Motoring Car of the Year

"With each new generation, the Mazda3 has set a new standard for the compact segment. The latest car does that yet again. The combination of styling, practicality and a full suite of Mazda’s Skyactiv technologies make it a dynamic, fun to drive car that is equally fuel-efficient. The combination made it the runaway winner of Motoring’s Car of the Year."

Mazda goes three for three!
Winning all categories entered for AJAC Canadian Car of the Year!

Bank Street Mazda Award Winner 2013

RICHMOND HILL, ON, Dec. 3, 2013 /CNW/ - The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) announced the category winners from the recent Canadian Car of the Year TestFest event, and Mazda received a number of trophies to add to its shelves. Three Mazda vehicles were entered in three separate categories and, in a huge nod to the value and quality of Mazda's new SKYACTIV-equipped vehicles, all three were chosen as the winners.

With two wins in the Best New Small Car categories (under $21K and over $21K), the Mazda3 in various forms has earned nine trophies in its ten year history, winning Best New Small Car in 2010 (both categories) and 2012, Best New Sports / Performance Car in 2007, and when the vehicle was first introduced in 2004, Best New Economy Car and Best New Sport Coupe, going on to win overall Canadian Car of the Year.

The Mazda6 is also a repeat winner, having taken the title of Best New Family Car ($22k-$30k) in 2009, Best New Family Car and Best New Station Wagon in 2005, and also winning Best New Family Vehicle in its introductory year in 2004.

"Our goal for the all-new Mazda3 and Mazda6 is to continue to offer consumers nothing less than the best in quality, performance, fuel economy, safety, reliability and value," said Kory Koreeda, President, Mazda Canada. "Going into such a tough competition and coming out with awards in all three segments entered is proof that the cars in our showrooms tick all the boxes that consumers are looking for today."

In a competitive field of four Best New Small Car (under $21,000) entries, the all-new 2014 Mazda3 was voted as the best in its category by over 80 AJAC members at the annual TestFest. The Mazda3 Sport was given some intense competition in the Best New Small Car (over $21,000) category by competitors from Ford, GM, and Kia, but managed to impress judges again, making this a small car sweep for Mazda.

The Mazda6, up against diverse competitors in the Best New Family Car (over $30,000) category, which included gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid vehicles, was also voted as the best in its segment.

Throughout a week of intense vehicle testing, journalists poured over every detail of almost 60 new 2014 model year vehicles in 12 categories, testing on road and track. Vehicles are rated based on a thorough set of characteristics regarding occupant environment, performance, and vehicle dynamics, and weighted based on price and objective data such as fuel economy and safety equipment.

"The core of the Canadian Car of the Year Awards is a thorough, exhaustive, and criteria-driven voting process undertaken by a panel of Canada's top automotive media. With over 40,000 data points generated by the program and published online at ajac.ca, there's no single factor that makes any category winner stand out - rather, it's the vehicle's execution as an overall package that secures it a win. Factors taken into consideration include fuel efficiency, comfort, safety, performance, styling and value. With a win in every entered category, Mazda's entries demonstrate leadership in meeting the demands of Canadian shoppers. Our program is unmatched for its thoroughness and credibility-- and the Canadian Car of the Year Awards can be taken as a 'thumbs up' from Canada's top auto experts," said Justin Pritchard, co-chair, AJAC Canadian Car of the Year Committee.

By winning their respective categories at TestFest, the Mazda3, Mazda3 Sport, and Mazda6 automatically become finalists to win the coveted title of 2014 AJAC Canadian Car of the Year, which will be announced in February 2013 at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.

Another great review of the Mazda3 vs. Corolla from Autos.ca

VANCOUVER (British Columbia) – That development, which has become what they call SKYACTIV technology, is now being applied to every Mazda model that gets introduced or redesigned. After the 2013 Mazda CX-5 and the 2014 Mazda6, it was the Mazda3's turn to get SKYACTIVated from head to toe...

Vancouver – I’ve always thought highly of the Mazda3, a car that could easily handle city traffic and then, when the road opened up, turn into a capable curve-carver with its delightful response and handling. And now, with the all-new 2014 model, it gets even better. While the last-gen 3 incorporated most of Mazda’s fuel-saving SkyActiv technologies, this new one is now based completely on them, including its optimized engines, lightweight construction, and available on the 2.5-litre model, a "smart" alternator and capacitor system that reduces parasitic drag...

VANCOUVER – When a product is successful as the Mazda3, it is critical that you get it right when it’s time to make changes. The first two generations of Mazda’s popular compact have been award winners around the globe – 136 honours, in fact, since the model was launched in 2003. That heritage hasn’t been lost on those charged with creating Gen 3...

This is an important car for Mazda. Sitting at a press conference in Vancouver, BC for the launch of the 2014 Mazda3, the representative states one in every three Mazda vehicles sold in Canada is a Mazda3. Put another way, they need to get this right. A few hours later, after my initial test drive to Whistler and back on the Sea- to-Sky highway, I am confident to say, get it right they did. A top seller across Canada since it first launched in 2003, the 2014 edition represents the 3rd generation Mazda3. Available in both sedan and hatchback models from the very beginning; the newest version continues this trend across the model range...

VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Mazda3 has ranked as the compact segment leader for as long as it has been around — 136 awards says it all. The replacement takes the 3!s basics and amps them up in all areas, which means it is destined to remain the benchmark when it hits the road. The third-generation Mazda3, which is offered in GX, GS and GT derivatives of the sedan and hatch, has a sharper style, a richer content list and a full suite of Mazda’s Skyactiv technology...

Mazda Corral at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

Mazda Corral at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park

For the second year in a row, Mazda Canada set up shop at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park during the American Le Mans Series weekend, hosting Mazda owners/enthusiasts at Turn 8 to watch all the action. The weekend was action-packed and every race series on display except for one featured at least one Mazda-powered vehicle, so there were plenty of competitors to cheer for. As was the case last year, the Mazda Corral parade lap time came early Sunday morning: 7 a.m. to be exact. The early bird start did little to dampen enthusiasm as 26 owners showed up with their Mazda to lap the newly renovated track. Throughout the day, more owners showed up to enjoy the festivities and chat with other likeminded Mazda enthusiasts. The action and suspense of the race weekend drew out to the last second, as fan-favourite Playboy MX-5 Cup driver Elliot Skeer made a race-winning pass on the last lap, right in front of the Mazda Corral that was cheering him on.

Mazda Canada goes for a Guinness World Record

Mazda Canada goes for a Guinness World Record

Remember this photo? This was the result of more than 200 Mazda3 owners gathered on the Oshawa Municipal Airport last summer at the Heart for Hearth 5K on the Runway event for charity. Well, 200 cars in one place was good, but why not try to get more for this year? Why not try to get say, 800 or so? And while you’re at it, why not get an official Guinness World Record judge to stop by and count them; you might end up with a World Record! That’s exactly the thoughts that went through the heads of the folks at the Toronto Mazda3 Club (TM3), responsible for last year’s ZOOM-ZOOM photo. With an estimated 800 cars on the runway, the group of cars will aim to break the world record for most Mazdas in a single parade formation. The previous record was set in June 2013, when 683 Mazda MX-5s gathered in Lelystad, Netherlands. To participate in the event, visit Heart for Hearth 2013. Registration is $20 per car, which includes admission and door prizes from TM3 sponsors. One lucky participant will also win a three-year lease on a brand new 2014 Mazda3 from Mazda Canada.

Mazda3 Sport GX wins Vincentric ‘Best Fleet Value in Canada' award

Mazda3 Sport GX wins Vincentric Best Fleet Value in Canada award

Winner of the 2013 Vincentric Best Fleet Value in Canada award for the second year in a row, the Mazda3 Sport GX had the lowest fleet cost to own in 23 of the 24 lifecycle cost scenarios measured. Flexing its fleet strength by outperforming its competitors, with better than average insurance and low depreciation, the Mazda3 Sport offers high value at low cost. Each month Vincentric measures the cost to own and operate over 1,800 vehicle configurations based upon typical use in a commercial fleet. To determine these overall lifecycle costs, fleet purchase incentives are incorporated into the calculation of the Vincentric Fleet Price for each vehicle, and costs for each vehicle are measured in the following 8 areas: Depreciation Insurance, Fees & Taxes Maintenance (scheduled and unscheduled), Finance, Opportunity Cost, Fuel, and Repairs.
